Outfit Post: Longstockings

Short on Cash, but Long on Style. Taking Style Inspiration from Pippi Longstocking.

I took my style inspiration from a lovable figure of my childhood, Pippi Longstocking, can you tell? I've had the socks for nearly ten years, so while they were purchased new (actually it was 3 exact pairs, on sale, J Crew, online) I've had them so long, and have worn them so much, they don't really count as "new" do they?

Aside from the long stockings, EVERYTHING you see was purchased secondhand. The knit cap (a handmade version of a red head in braids) was a no brainer for me to grab at the Goodwill last week. I'm nearly an official red-head aficionado, and all around lover of all things ginger, so now I can play red-head anytime my head feels cold. The sweater, is a bit brow beaten but precious, being the perfect shade of baby blue for my complexion, and has the cutest pink rosebuds blooming up the arms. I got it at Trove, a new vintage shop in Ballard, and soon to be a dangerous addiction. The polka dot silk dress and rayon shorts were gained by trading some stuff in at a Buffalo Exchange, different visits but both instant favorites.  And these tall boots were scored at a great local consignment shop near my home. You might remember their first outing in this outfit post.

I LOVED wearing this outfit, it was a happy day. I felt I got to express myself, which feels like a challenge here in the Emerald city, and feel cute and quirky, comfy and warm. It was an outfit fit to be seen, and I feel gloriously visible in my tribute to Pippi and her longstockings.

    Oh, I love the braids! When I was a little girl with an eternal pixie cut, I LONGED for braids. I used to wear my sweatshirt on my head with the sleeves hanging down and pretend they were braids. The socks are awesome. You are one creative soul!

    Well it was a happy day for you and a damn fine sight to see for me!! That's the second day in a row I've seen a similar beanie - the gods are telling me something.     Gosh, this post really does transport me into a childhood. Pippi was most definitely my FIRST role model. I loved her fearlesness and her sassiness.
    I like to think it rubbed off on me a teeny bit. ;)

    Oh I used to LIVE at the Buffalo Exchange in University Villiage. I found a black formal gown there once that I kept for about 20 years. Just retired it two or three years ago....got too ratty. Oh how I miss thee Buffalo Exchange....

    GAH you're adorable. I had boots just like that but I just couldn't make them work for me. Now I see you in them and I'm like, "So THAT'S how you're supposed to wear them." Too bad I got rid of them years ago. I kinda want them back now so I can try to rock them the way you did there.

    I need that braided cap. I've got one, but the braids are not long enough!
    Sometimes I miss my long flowing locks that I sported before 6/2010. Then I remember how long it took to dry. And the knots. And then I'm content with the shortness.

    Your whole look is adorable. The hat and the socks are my favorite parts.

    Didnt actually know Pipp langkous (as she 's calles in holland) also made over the big ocean! When i was young people called me pipi(that was meant cute...)..two red ponytails and a lot of freggles. Then it didnt sound much as a compliment. Know it does!!
