Outfit Post: Texas Tuxedo

Before I get started, let me mention that I've been included today in a What I Wore: Fabulous Over 40 round-up of personal style. So check me out, mingling with other fab + 40 ladies over at Fabulous Over 40.

And now onto today's OOTD: the Texas Tux.

DON'T. MESS. WITH. TEXAS. I've been planning a Texas Tuxedo outfit for years. Seriously, ever since I paraded my (at the time) 44 year-old butt in a pair of short shorts with my version of the Canadian Tuxedo. You can revisit it HERE

A Texas tuxedo is another variation of denim on denim, but usually denotes a dolled up cowboy. You get your best jean jacket and pair of jeans and pair it with a nice western shirt (the kind with the snap pearl buttons) or tuxedo shirt, and wear with a bow tie (better yet, a bolo tie) and trade out the cumberbund with a Texas worthy  carved leather belt with a buckle the size of a dinner plate. And this folks, is the glory of the Lone Star State.

My version includes this amazing vintage 1950s sequin grey wool jersey top. I found this silvered treasure at Beats and Bohos last month, and have been dreaming about wearing it ever since. Turns out the virgin voyage is the last (for a while at least) as the zipper in the back broke, and who knows when I'll take it in to a seamstress to fix it. Chambray top, and jeans make up my tuxedo foundation, and I've topped it off with a vintage silk bow tie, and Order of the Easter Star vintage rhinestone broach. That would be the shiny bauble on my knuckles.

What do you think? Did I mess with Texas?
Would you wear a Texas Tux?

Love the sequin top-- can't believe the blasted zipper broke. UGH! It always takes longer than I'd like to admit to get things repaired. I like your previous denim on denim Canadian tux!!

You look fab, Bella, and I love the sequin top with the denim. I have (and will) wear my 'tux' again soon as it's a fave casual look - except back home in Canada, they call denim on denim a Canadian Tux! Congrats on your feature; popping over to check you out! xoxo

I usually flinch a bit at double denim but the addition of the sequins and the bow tie make it work!
Super sassy, Bella! xxx

I love it - it's sassy and shiny (sorry the zipper broke). I def. do double denim, it ain't no crime : >

Love the sparkle! Broken zippers are awful - even worse when they break while you're wearing them and you can't get out of the clothes. (Don't ask me how I know!)

I like it very much on you Bella, but as you know you are much more of a dare devil than conservative me. And much more creative.
Congratulations on your appearance at Fabulous over 40. I had a look.
I also had a look at your shorts on a 44 year old body. So cute. You looked so different with the short hair and big glasses.
Now promise me... next time you post: give me a big smile (LOL).

Like your spin on the tuxedo and that sequin top is pretty special.

You look terrificly spiffy in your sparkles and bow-tied-up-denim-ness. I would wear a sequined top with jeans but seeing as I live in Nashville I would stop there or risk looking very cliche LOL.

I've never been to Texas, but I will be going in June and I can't wait! Some women dream of their first trip to Paris, France - been there, done that. Now I'm dreaming of my first trip to Paris, Texas! Yee Haw!

Nice photo of you over at Fabulous over 40! Don't you hate when you wear something the first time and either a button falls off or the zipper breaks! Love the mix of sequins, denim and a bow tie - so cute on you.

Ooooh, that's a mighty fine formal-style Texas tux. I would love to see you strutting down any Seattle street in that. As for me, the Canadian tuxedo is my all time, ALL TIME favourite attire - for the opera, for white tie, for lounging about the house. That's the beauty - its utter versatility. I would never be caught in public in sequins, which would be a scandal up here in Canada. Hugs, Bella. You made me laugh.
