Wonderful idea, Bella! I am always trying to get people to shop second-hand. So many people I know are uncomfortable with it.

I feel like I already have made this commitment to myself and the planet. But I also still shop retail for certain things for my very tall self that I would likely not find second-hand. This pledge will make me try harder to find those things - long inseams being the main one - that I lazily shop online retail for.

I would love a widget...something small like the size of your Over 40 blog roll widget would be perfect.

Thank you, Bella!
Adrienne

This is great!! I want to join, as I DO shop secondhand first.
And I agree with Adrienne, a widget would be great...!

Yours sincerely,

I would guess that 90% of my wardrobe consists of vintage. The hardest thing to find is shoes ... Hard to really promise to always wear second hand, but this initiative is wonderful! Tomorrow I'll talk second hand and remake with a bunch of youngsters. it will be so fun!

Can I post it to my FB page? I don't have a blog...here in Italy it's difficult to convince people to shop second hand as second hand shops are mostly vintage shops that mostly have expensive stuff that retails above 100 €...but we have weekly markets, that's the way here we shop second hand, markets that have tables with heaps of clothes on them and all you have to do is rummage and rummage...that's very fun too!

I love it I shop second hand all the time I live on a budget due to being on a medical retirement from law enforcement and I only get a $500.00 per month so thrift stores and yard sales are my "malls" I added your widget to my blog!! http://wildwillows.wordpress.com

How could I not take such a wonderful, life-affirming pledge? With all this Black Friday nonsense around the webz this week, my skin crawls at the thought of all the packaging wastage, cheap but poorly-made goods for sale that will be destined for landfill in a few months or a couple of years time and the people who made the goods who could never afford to buy them on the paltry wages they get. Thank you Bella xoxo

Hi, Just letting you know that 'm in also. I'm from
Australia (Victoria) and mainly shop 2nd hand anyway, but this pledge will make me think twice about buying new. Great idea - thankyou. And enjoy the run up to Christmas. Blessings - from Clare

Yes, I'm going to do it! I've just been lazy so far, but I am going to look for unique, recycled goods, or upcycle my own. I promise.

How bizarre, I was sure I'd responded to this!

The widget is up, the pledge has been taken and I'm doing it. 99% of my Christmas shopping has been second-hand, vintage or ethically and/or locally made too!

I've been doing this for years! It not only makes good sense from a sustainability point of view but also an economic one. So good to see such a strong movement!

I've always thrifted, but since opening a thrift store practically everything comes from there now! I do buy comfortable shoes new. That's my splurge, but when you thrift about everything else you wear it all works out. Debbie

Been doing this for years! It brought the fun back to shopping for me. Second hand shopping always feels like an adventure because you never know what you might find!

Great idea - I've been doing it for some time, but love the idea of a badge on the site..... once I work how to do it :P Vintage by name, vintage by nature when it comes to technology!

I've taken the pledge :) Been meaning to do it for ages since I've been *living* it for years, but my blog has been quiet for months.

Excellent widget, excellent sentiment. Shopping second-hand is more exciting anyway. You never know what you might find! You have so much more liberty to create your own style..
