Prints Charming (a FTF Community event)

"Is love a tender thing? It is too rough, too rude, too boisterous, and it pricks like a thorn."

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of a happy mix of prints. Yes, mixed prints brings out the romantic in me even though I am clearly from the wrong side of the tracks. Lucky for me this was one of the key trends for Spring. Also lucky for me, I don't really let my happy-ever-after come from following trends.

Hence the rebellious addition of a very non-trendy item- my tacky baseball cap with it's campy "I heart Magnum P.I." that holds me under its spell.

The key for a a happy mix of prints is to play in the same color family. In this case, my summer calico romper in navy with white and light blue flowers, plays nicely with the large floral pattern of the cotton sweater. While the colors aren't an exact match (I'm not a fan of "matchy-matchy") the common blue hues bring a certain sense to the riotous blend. Also adding interest is the vintage red/white/blue flower broach that draw the eye to front and center, adding focus to what could be a dizzy-making combo. The light blue hat, not your obvious topper for the outfit gives the otherwise girly look a tomboy edge. The socks, a small print of grey, black, white and mint green polka dots, echo the pattern of the calico, and fit seamlessly into this romance.

Speaking of romantic, nothing says "I love you" like a pair of cheery, cherry red heart shaped sunglasses. And conveniently, the red in the broach is enhanced with my shady addition.
Now Wearing:

  • Heart Sunnies, Freestyle
  • Vintage floral broach, gifted

  • Target brand cotton sweater, thrifted

Oh my gosh, Magnum PI is back on tv! I watched a bit of it the other night. I'm a married woman, but I have to say that Tom Selleck looked mighty fine in those short shorts. HA! You never cease to amuse me Bella. xoxo

Love it! I have yet to try mixing prints, but it's now definitely on my list. Your sunglasses are so fun.. I've had some on my ebay watch list forever but haven't bought any yet.

bella!! i appreciate your expertise on print mixing so much and i love that you imparted some advice on us in that department. thank you for that!! prints dont come naturally to me, let alone mixing them. but i am trying and it will happen!

i love that you don't like being too matchy matchy either. i'm the same way. i like a bit of the off beat. and though i pay attention to trends, i don't follow them religiously either. which is exactly why i wanted to do this blog event, to show the world that there is a wiiiide way of interpreting what's out there and available to us so we don't all look like little clones.

i love your outfit. it's fun, it's summer and it's oh so bella. it's very now without looking like something you see everywhere, which is something us fashionably minded should be conscious of. originality is key and yours reigns supreme my love!!

The romper and the socks are not the perfect match but are a perfect match for each other. Which is the most romantic match there is!

Wrong side of the tracks? No, dear you are on the greatest side (stylishly right side) of the tracks. I love florals as well, they indeed have a romanticised appeal and love the way that you don them here! -xxoo

You. Are. Awesome.

I don't really know what else to say, that's essentially my reaction to this post in full. Your print-mixing abilities border on the superhuman, lady. And I ~heart~ your sunnies. Pun tragically intended, I'm in that sort of goofy mood.

OMG, the hat is too much! I fully remember watching Magnum P.I. Everybody thought Tom Selleck was so hot and I didn't! I've never dug mustaches.

Love your individuality and yet so approachable. I think mixing prints is the art of letting go really. I'm learning every day to take that step. Till then I will live through bloggers like you and Anika, mixing goddesses (hahaha!).
