Money Where Your Mouth Is

Settle Down: Some recent gaffs at IFB caused a big stir, but it's time to get back up.

Whoo-weee, peeps! What a fashion-blogger-roller-coaster we've been on! Broohau-ha and such forth, the IFB fiasco seems to be settling down, and we are left where we are.

And just where is that you ask?

Well, at a crossroads of sorts. I've said my piece (Rest In Peace, IFB.) And now it's time to move on.

As I stated before (probably many times) that it's good to focus on the folks who inspire our style, and celebrate the original. I've no intention of dissing anybody, I'd rather focus on some good ol' fashioned QUALITY peeps, who inspire MY style.

Looks like even "the mean girls" of Shamepuff got in on the action. Not satisfied with calling out bullshit on blogs, specifically fashion blogs, Shamepuff and its sister site Get Off My Internets, can dish the dirt, but they also can hand out some compliments. Not that long ago, on GOMI, was our very own Vintage Vixen, getting some words of praise in a venue usually reserved for scathing rebukes. Well, yet another +40 goddess, I mean blogger, elicited praise from the tough love GOMI crew.

In a new feature christened PRIDEPUFF, the lovely Desiree got mentioned as someone to celebrate because of their true style. The comments, rowdily echoed the sentiment. Which proves to me, that just because someone criticizes something doesn't mean they are just shit-talking (or bullying!), they might just be as passionate as you about the subject, and this is a seriously blog-savvy (and sometimes savage) bunch,  BUT they they know their stuff. And, it seems they recognize QUALITY when they see it.

So a big sloppy citizen kiss to the folks at the Shamepuff- one for having good taste but mostly for stepping up where IFB failed, and that is taking time to use their platform to acknowledge and share unconventional and original style. If the kids at Shamepuff can do it, now, why can't you?

If you're a blogger who appreciates fashion, can you take a moment to promote someone in your sphere that inspires you? Someone who should be "top-tier" in real life, regardless of how palatable they may be to a corporate sponsor? Someone like Desiree? Or YOUR version of fabulous?

I would LOVE to see in the next two weeks, an explosion on the internet of images going viral promoting, not your own damn self, but somebody else, someone off the beaten path, that if given the platform, could be, should be as famous as our top-tiered blogger super stars? Post them on your blogs, tweet about them. If you message me or comment here with the urls, I'd love to check them out!

And one last plug to enter the Sunglasses Shop GIVE-AWAY.  C'mon, do it!

I would love to start a thread on the Blog Trends forums for this! I think it's so important! I put out a call on the @Blog_Trends twitter to tweet us with your favorite bloggers and tell us why they are #FF worthy and we've been retweeting some. Maybe we will carry it through the whole month! Love what you're doing here Bella!

This is awesome. I feel like we need to find some way to centralize this so that we can make sure everyone benefits. I'd loved to see what Blog Tredns comes up with Kaitlyn, and I can't wait to participate.

There are so many beautiful unique fellow bloggers who inspire me in so many different ways. I really enjoy the 70's vibe that Vix has going on and all her really cool ass chunky jewelry. I dig Helga's adoration of color and all things girlie. Sarah is another who's wide range of style is always eye popping good. The list could go on and on really but those are the three who's style inspires me most. They are also beautiful people on the inside...much like you sweet Bella.
Much love~
Krista

I am not sure whats been going on as I have not read the posts, but I think its a great idea to be positive and celebrate and encourage. I agree with Krista, there are some amazing fashion bloggers who are beautiful inside and out - including Krista herself. I'd like to see this trending on Twitter!!

I hear you! We bloggers all need to get back into the art of supporting and recognizing each other!

Though the list of blogs I follow is crazy long (including yours!), I have taken off a few and added two new ones to my Google Reader:

Comme Coco (www.commecoco.com)
Girl Does Geek (www.girlsdoesgeek.com)

When I saw the #toptier hashtag on Twitter, YOU were the first person who came to my mind...

I have to go read about the IFB dustup. I thought maybe it was because the price of their NYC conference tickets has tripled (which is part of why I am not attending this year). But from your previous post I see it's FAR worse than that. I am a bit IFB'ed out even before I understand what has happened, because IFB does not seem very relevant to me as a 40+ blogger, especially one who is less outfit-oriented and more interested in fashion history. You are top tier to me honey, and you always will be! XO, Jill

What a great follow-up to your last post.

Not sure if I know of any fashion bloggers that wouldn't already be familiar to you, but I'm always happy to promote others.xx.

I have given shout-outs to fellow over-forty bloggers in posts on my blog, and I agree that it is important to celebrate all of our blog-sisters! We bring a whole truckload of much-needed, fabulous, off-the-wall style and personality to the bloggerverse

Oh, I hear your power growing and growing - and taking everyone else along with you! It's a gift you have. We are all so lucky. I'm with you 100 percent. There are so many awesome people with jaw-dropping style... Let's get started.

I'm not so sure I like the idea of having top tier blogs. It's hard to pick some blogs over others - they each have their individual strong points. Some have a great sense of colour, some have great accessories and some have challenging views on age appropriateness and so on.

All the blogs on my blog roll are my favorites and they all deserve all attention they can get - choosing one over the other is like choosing one child over another, impossible!

Hi Bella, I was just going to post and introduce one of my fav bloggers at http://www.stylinstacy.com/

I'll be posting in the next day or so about her and her blog. Great idea!

I love the idea!Desiree is for sure on my list of favourite bloggers too!
I think that you already know most of my inspirational persons like Vix, Krista, La Dama, Helga and Sarah Misfit!
Lots of love!

I haven't felt concerned about that IFB post, (it's just a bunch of preconceived ideas!), but I'm feeling very concerned about sharing who inspires you and spread the world with all the blogger ladies Style and Great Attitude!
You're a top-tier blogger, and also Desirée, and Vix, and Helga and Sacramento, they're style goddess! and Advanced Style is the most influential blog in my life!
besos & real life

I love http://www.wearableartblog.com/ and http://athousandfacets.tumblr.com/. For me, it's about supporting artisan, handmade items. I LOVE creative jewelry and these two blogs are what really highlight unique accessories.

I've never had anything to do with IFB. I blog purely for fun and can't be doing with all that navel-gazing nonsense.
I haven't read Get Off My Internets, I noticed a lot of traffic coming over from there but it felt like eavesdropping to go over and find out why.
The bloggers I love are the ones who I'd want to hang out with in real life, women who are true to themselves, don't take themselves too seriously and can keep up with me in the drinking stakes (you included, obviously!) xxx

I've managed to remain completely obtuse about any IFB brouhaha (or any IFB action at all, for that matter). But I love this idea of spreading the word about +40 bloggers we love -- and I should also take this chance to thank you for keeping my name on your blogroll (clearly influential, as my statscounter shows)

I can't choose a favourite style blogger, those I follow are all inspirational and interesting in their own ways.
But I endorse the call to explore and meet new friends, and celebrate uniqueness and creativity. And humour, I like women who have a laugh with their style! I often take a look through the blog lists of those I love and see who I find.
Thanks for all the encouragement you give to us non-"top tier" folk, Bella! It's appreciated. xxxxx

This is Exactly what I came away thinking about after the IFB fiasco. We, the fashion blogging community, need to start backing each other up. I updated my blog roll the other day, and a few weeks ago I started doing my own "links a la mode" when the IFB ones continuously disappointed me.

And I started following shame puff too, if just to see what NOT to do as a personal style blogger. I don't think I'll take part in the mean comments though.

So I'll be doing my best to promote my fellow fashion and style bloggers!

Oh thank you so much darling Bella!!! I was so surprised to see my mug on their page when you showed it to me:)). I've never considered myself top-tier anything - I blog as a creative outlet and I tend to follow bloggers who write and photograph for the same reasons. I really like Evil Dressmaker who is so artistic and has amazing sewing skills. Thank you for encouraging us to enjoy the ride:)) xoxoxoxoxo

Love sharing the love! I love Jennifer of Belle de Couture...Not only does she inspire me to bust out my vintage duds more, but she's a such a sweetie IRL!

I was so excited to see that Shamepuff featured darling Desiree! There are so manny fab bloggers out there that don't get the recognition that they deserve. Lately I've been thinking a lot about the types of blog I follow, especially since I have less time to keep up with them & I've stopped following a few that don't inspire me anymore. I'm totally down with supporting original, inspirational blogs!

The Style Crone said...

So exciting to hear that the beautiful and creative Desiree got featured on Shamepuff. You Bella are 'top-tier' (a phrase I was unfamiliar with until now) and thank you for encouraging all of us to reflect your supportive energy. Inspiration is everywhere amongst +40 bloggers!

Kathleen Lisson said...

It doesn't matter if they are 'top tier' or not - if they are wearing a hat and I like their style, they are getting a shout out on twitter. Check out my favorites at @thatsaprettyhat Thanks for all your honest words on this subject.

Desiree is a Goddess of Happiness and Joy as far as I'm concerned. I am over-the-top when one of her posts shows up in my reader.

So many beautiful bloggers make my day, but Ally at Shybider and Melanie at Bags and a Beret are also two of my faves, for both their writing and their originality.

I totally agree that there are a gazillion bloggers out there who are inspiring to me in very different ways. I started my Ode Series early on for exactly that reason!!!

I've already got a few more Odes lined up in my head, so I'll be posting another one soon. BTW, I think Vix pretty much summed it up for me. I gravitate to the blogs of the people I'd like to hang out with, including you!!
