Checks + Balances

A checkered print bandana.
A gingham plisse play suit.
Houndstooth espadrilles.

There are checks. And there are balances.

SHOP SECONDHAND FIRST: 75% Thrifted. 100% Phinneywood.

I am striving to thrive in both.

I recently got some new eyeglasses, and I am loving my smarty pants look! They are by Kala Eyewear, handmade in California, and proudly crafted in the USA. I had the best customer service ever at my neighborhood optometrists (Hi Dr. Rob and Dr. Cindy! Woo-woo!)) and can't recommend enough the friendly and supreme service at Phinney Ridge Eyecare (and nope, I wasn't paid a cent to say this). And now realize the advantage of supporting your local eye care professional over ordering a pair of frames via the internet. The fit is incredible and I pretty much think they are the cutest eyeglasses on the planet. Here's my SHOP LOCAL, LOVE GLOBAL thought: By paying a bit more but buying local, over buying a cheaper pair of frames online, you are ensuring these brick and mortar businesses (often family run) are going to stay in business for years to come- and they're the ones you turn to adjust your frames, or trouble shoot if you need it. So who's going to support these terrific local shops? Well, me for starters. It's just smart thinking (must be the new glasses!) and a one of many good sustainable shopping choices.

Speaking of awesome and local- I am THRILLED to be part of a vintage clothing collective opening inside the new Beats and Bohos location, which, coincidentally enough is not even a block away from Dr. Rob and Dr. Cindy at Phinney Ridge Eyecare. Beats+ Bohos is planning their grand opening for the middle of next month (look for an upcoming post about it) but presently, they're quietly open for business as they settle into their new digs in Phinney Ridge.

They're located on the corner of 72nd and Greenwood Avenue N,  (7200 Greenwood Avenue N, if you need specifics) and that is right in my 'hood! Look for a big rack of Citizens-of-Rosebud vintage because I got lots of fun stuffs to sell. If you say 'ROSEBUD" to the nice cashier at checkout, they'll give you 10% off your purchase, just for name dropping. So do it already.

I'll be back early September, hopefully on full throttle, back online and for your viewing pleasure.
Take care, peeps!

PS: I am LOVING Alicia's new project, The Roll Model Roster- please take a moment and check it out over at The Spashionista. Rock (and ROLL) on, Alicia! You are such a inspiration!

You look adorable. I also totally support the local eyecare businesses in my city - I had my eye exam done at one, and bought my specs at the other (name-dropping Goo Goo Goggles here). I bought a pair of wonderful handmade in Canada glasses by Rapp.

Happy to hear about your new venture!

I am seriously digging the new glasses--I'm due at my local eye doctor (BUY LOCAL--not a chain like Lenscrafters!!!) next month and I'm thinking of getting frames like yours!!

Checks and houndstooth - how cool, and a perfect way to debut your new glasses! Which look gorgeous on you, by the way.

Looking great and I totally agree with you about supporting your local optometrist. There's an amazing business not far from us that has outstanding customer service. They make it a no-brainer. Our daughter was going to order frames on-line, but we talked her into going locally. Not only did they quickly correct her prescription twice, they replaced her frames when they came apart prematurely. All this with apologies and an eagerness to get it right, fast.

Can't wait until I can come visit your space and "shop locally"!! XXOO
