THIS IS 40: Ty

THIS IS 40. Here's some time tested proof that life is not over at forty. The forties come in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes. Find the one that's right for you.
This is the second in the series presenting the incredible range of style loving women over forty. Nicknamed the "Shoe Chick," this one comes with a taste for stilettos.

So tell me, who are you?  And what do you do?
My Name is Tywana Williams.  I'm a business consultant and life strategist.

How do you feel as a +40 woman and does your style reflect it?
As a +40 woman I feel fantastic with a new perspective on life. When I turned 40 my mental baggage started to fall away. I've got a positive outlook on living. At this stage in life I want to live on “Purpose.”  I feel in control and confident.

Positively plus 40: Meet the effervescent Ty Williams
My style reflects a mash-up of trends; just think Dolce and Gabbana meets Old Navy! I am somewhere in between all of that. LOL I love fashion and I LOVE shoes. Basically if I put it on and it looks good, I’m in business. The key to style is how you accessorize!

I'd love to hear any honest reflections of body image and what you've done to stay positive about aging.
I think all my life before I hit forty I had high and low points about my body image. I can’t say I wasn’t happy with it, I can’t say I was ecstatic about it either. I think my main focus has always been the beauty inside.

In my head I am the sexiest and most intriguing woman alive and that has always carried me through the fluctuations in dress sizes. Size doesn’t matter it’s who you are in the inside and how you feel after you have ran up two flights of stairs. Staying positive about aging is easy: I don’t think about it. In my mind I have so much to do and share with others that aging is a non-factor.

Do you "age gracefully" or "age disgracefully"?
I age gracefully! The older I get, the better I become. I am alert and wiser. I don’t make the same mistakes I made when I was in my twenties and thirties, but again that has a lot to do with purpose and soul searching.

If you were to describe yourself in 3 words, what would they be?
Nurturing, Warrior, and Engaging.

If you were to describe your personal style, how would you describe it?
I'd describe my personal style as “diva with a twist.”  I can go from stilettos to high top sneakers depending on my mood.

Please share any brief memories on a younger self discovering her style.
When I was younger I wanted to be the first with the newest styles. I remember bothering my mother to get me a leather bomber jacket. I couldn’t have a regular color (black or brown) No Ty had to have an electric blue bomber I think my mom and I went to several stores in Manhattan to find one! To this day my mother tells me that “I am fancy” with extreme taste. “You don’t like normal stuff” she says. She is right. You can find me at a thrift store or Nordstrom’s.  I don’t care where it comes from as long as it's different.

And what advice would the 40 year old you give to your 23 year old self?
It’s not worth the heartache and the pain. Let go and let God.

Do you know a stylish +40 woman who you think should be featured, please share her with us! Send your submission to: this40@thecitizenrosebud.com
