#SECONDHANDFIRST™: Cool.

The smug look on my face is probably from the fact I was feeling super smart and clever in my 100% SECONDHANDFIRST outfit.

I can't say that it was ALL "thrifted," because it wasn't. It's EVEN better. STOP. Hear me out. The shirt and the shorts were freebies, cast offs by their previous owners, and picked up by me. A floral polyester shirt isn't for the weak of heart, it's a kind of meshy, thin late 1970s polyester, not exactly screaming "lux." And, the vintage "mom" jeans were abandoned for good reason.

Outfit Post: Vintage Love, Biker Babe

#SECONDHANDFIRST: This Biker Babe is 99.99% thrifted + 100% bad-ass.

THAT OL' BLACK MAGIC? I'm not sure what the heck happened, but everything changed the moment I put on this vintage black leather biker jacket by Drag Specialties. Personally, I'm not a black leather (or biker) chick- leather is too slick for me- I'm a warm and fuzzy type- I like velvet, suede, corduroy,  you get the picture, don't you? I AM SOFT. There's not a bit of hard-core, or whiff of edge to me, so biker jackets, while I love the look on others, just don't feel like ME. And leather, well, let's just say I'm more Richie Cunningham than the Fonz.

Stripes and Dots, with Dots on Top

Top This: Dotted 1960s Wool Felt Pillbox Hat in Marine c/o Trove Vintage

Dots and stripes make for a cheerful pattern play. While this is probably more of a spring look, I'm enjoying my new-to-me vintage 1960s wool felt pillbox hat, a recent score from Trove Vintage. Isn't it a fun topper? It seemed a good fit with my navy/cream cotton t-shirt, a secondhand find from the Goodwill- what makes it extra special to me is the fact it is made in the USA. Of course, I don't mind that it is figure flattering and was purchased for a little under $10.The whole outfit felt first rate, and on budget.

SHOPPING SECONDHAND FIRST: The items came from a variety of shops- from charity, thrift, consignment and vintage boutiques, but the one thing they all have in common- they are all secondhand sourced. So, 100% Thrifted. And 100% affordable. Boo-yah. Total cost of outfit comes in under $50 bucks.

Gingham Khan

Gingham Khan: The Plaid That's Gonna Take Over the World
If you're afraid - don't do it. If you're doing it - don't be afraid!”Genghis Khan

Just like Genghis Khan, Gingham Khan is taking over the world. I mean what feels more fresh + wholesome than a pile-up of prints including this classic summertime plaid? Or what could be more edgy and fashion forward than these very same vanquishing hordes of gingham checks? After all, this IS black, white, and checkered, peeps, which is  very, very-FASH-ISH circa this Spring 2013. Oh-so au currant,  and I, my friends, am wearing it.
