Bella's Picks for Fall

Bella's Picks: Take a fresh look at Fall staples with timeless appeal. This 90s takes on 1960s style fills the bill.

Fall for me, means tree leaves changing colors, chilly mornings, overcast days and warm woolens. Somehow traditions come into play, more so in the Autumn, when it comes to fashion too. Perhaps, because Autumn, more than any other season, cues us to the cycle of seasons, draws us to the inevitable return of what already was, what went before and ultimately, steers us towards what will be.

Plaid-itude

Blessed are the Pattern-mixers, for theirs is the kingdom of plaid-dom. According to those in the know, and I kid you not: PLAID IS HOT THIS SEASON. I just read all about this trending trend, breaking news: plaid for in for Fall. It's um, "revolutionary, yeah?" In the fashion cycle of nothing new under the sun, I'm not sure why the fashion peddlers have to keep re-inventing the wheel.

However, plaid is one of those things- that you're either into plaid, or you are not. You're either "mad for plaid" or "meh for plaid. There's no middle ground really. It's just a great classic pattern, like polka dots, leopard print, or pin-stripes- plaid is always in style.

The Karina Dresses Fall Collection 2012

Karina Cousineau, dress designer (image source)

Karina Cousineau is a woman who loves vintage clothing and is inspired by the past. Perhaps that is why her contemporary designed dresses suit the present so well. Borrowing  body positive elements from a jazz age bias-cut, and adding elegance from the Edwardian era, and applying it to her designs gives her dresses an ease of movement as well as a sense of drama.  Taking cues from Victoriana, '60's youthquakers, and mixing it with the steely resolution a 1940's film noir heroine, and adding a touch of '70's individualism is no easy feat, but this is a labor of love for Ms. Cousineau.

Miu Miu, Oh My Oh My!

Do I NEED this pair of sunglasses like I need a second kidney? Probably not. Do I WANT this suuuper sexy pair of red glitter cat-eyes with the svelte gold wire temples? OH, HELLZ YEAH.

My oh my for the Miu Miu, if you will. Me wants them muy muy much. In fact the entire fall collection of Mui Mui fills me with want, I'm not sure how Madame Miuccia Prada does it, but her cerebral application of fashion concepts to entirely wearable + desirable clothing (and accessories) year after year, is something I greatly admire + am inspired by. Prada proves that you can love fashion, be successful and be as clever as punch.

outfit post: Exalted Ruler

I know I have the body of a woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a King
1-2-3-4: I am counting the days...
for Fall weather to arrive to Sacramento. Until the cooler weather arrives, I intend to reign with my arsenal of autumnal colors donned in light weight fabrics. Today's outfit is one of my personal all time faves, a regal number centering around a charming smocked vintage blouse that buttons down the back. I'm ornamented with two incredible pieces, courtesy of Fringe, and feeling every bit an exalted ruler, ala Henry the VIII.

THIS IS HENRY:

THIS IS ME:
Feeling Regal: investing in unique and quality pieces are a wise investment.
Can you feel the royal resemblance?
