More urbane than urban is my latest play of flora and fauna. I love mixing it the way Mother Nature does - with florals + animal prints. You can see some previous incarnations here, here, and here. This time however, I think I lost some urban edge and added spinster spice. There is nothing edgy or dangerous to my look, just look how cute this '80's floral sundress is! Throwing on that sweater like a good grannie somehow gave me suburban vibes. Which looks tame and well, nice. As in, less likely to pull a switchblade on ya, more likely to serve up some ice cold lemonade.

outfit post: Maximum Rosebud
Sometimes it doesn't take much to feel like a million bucks.
A couple of months ago, my friend Idalia gave me a rack of vintage clothing. It was her way of showing her support in my venture; she was moving out of town, and said she'd rather me get some use out of her donations then pay for storage. She gave me a great collection of mostly vintage 1960's and '70's polyester pieces, which I don't normally wear, but there were so many cute and charming shirts and dresses, some of them just found their way into my wardrobe. Without Idalia's gift, I NEVER would have considered wearing a maxi dress, and here I am, rocking it loud and proud in a bright floral number. In fact, I now have 3 long dresses to wear this winter, 3 adorable frocks that I wouldn't have considered wearing on my own.
This dress fit me perfectly. It's a late 1960's frock, and I love the back built in train. The fabric is quite breathable, and the dress is so comfortable. Making it even more endearing, is the fact that it reminds me of something dear Helga or Vix or Sarah might wear. So, Helga, Vix and Misfit Sarah: this 'bud's for YOU.

the Rosebud Romper
I have been waiting for months to wear this little vintage Laura Ashley romper! Today, a blustery yet sunny day was THEE day to break it out. I had a thrifting date with the lovely Kerry D, and nothing says first-rate fun like second-hand finds. My inspiration: a Wayne Tippets photo of a vixen wearing a satiny ROSEPRINT one-piece pant suit. Today I "followed suit" , and donned my cotton jersey rose- print-on-black "onesie," and dolled it up with striped socks and shiny heels. YOU LIKE?

Love Waits
"It's at the edge of the petal that love waits."
- William Carlos WilliamsThis quote was the inspiration for the latest collection of frocks & follies by the CITIZEN ROSEBUD. It's at the edge. Of the petal. That LOVE waits. Which sets the perfect mood for this February.
It's a short month, but an intense one, caught between the cold chill of winter and the promising blossoming of spring. For being so brief, February houses an abundance of holidays but St. Valentine's Day is the holiday that best colors it.
And this Citizen is feeling most romantic this year: full of hope, amor and optimism. Have been very, very lucky at love and perhaps that is why roses have caught our fancy as of late. Roses: so potent with promise, so laden with romance. It's been a riot with floral prints, and we've managed muster quite an interesting collection, many of which will be making their way to the Fringe this week, just in time for Second Sunday. We'll try to get some pictures of our favorite dresses by the end of the week.
In the meantime, be patient, because: LOVE WAITS.

Flower Power
An easy ensemble for a Saturday morning coffee. The wool beret with rose bouquet applique, floral scarf and purse are extremely recent (yesterday!) thrift store scores, all from the SPCA thrift store in downtown Sacramento. The overall shorts and boots, and 1980's black blazer are also thrifted, although less recently from Thriftown. The beautiful grey and rosebud printed tights are first run, acquired at the Fringe, located at 21st & X Streets. There you may also find many of Citizen Rosebud's embellished treasures available for sale. I found the fit extremely comfortable to wear as well as on the pocketbook.
