Canadian Tuxedo

Denim on denim. I just had to try it. For the past six months, I've been enjoying various outfit posts by bloggers the world over, showing off their "Canadian Tuxedo."*  Now, as much as I love a good pair of jeans, I'm not exactly famous for my denim ensembles, and for good reason. I feel like too much jean, meaning jean & jean jacket makes me look like a migrant field worker, no offense to migrant field workers. But I seldom feel sophisticated and chic wearing head-to-toe dungarees
So it became a challenge. When I found this denim shirt at a thrift store, I became charmed by it. It's odd frontiersman cut is slightly "soccer mom-esque" if your kid played soccer in the late 1980's.  Nerdy. I liked it. With too much long jean, it's a bit frightful, I'll be honest. But I really like the way it goes with a pair of short-shorts, of which I'm insistent upon wearing, in spite of my neighbor D's chronic pronouncements that I have legs "like tree-stumps." I'm not saying I SHOULD be wearing short-shorts, as I'm a certain age that should be covering her knee-caps, I'm just saying I'm GONNA wear short-shorts.

And I really like how this little homage to our neighbors to the North turned out.   Snap! Vintage rhinestoned round glasses, strawberry broach, my strawberry-floral market bag, a pair of big girl shoes, and I'm ready to drive my mini-van to soccer practice. Hope you like cougars, kiddo. Rawr.

 Now Wearing:
  • Sun Belt Denim brand snap-front shirt, Thrift Town
  • L.e.i. denim short shorts, Thrift Town
  • 1960's vintage round sunglasses, thrifted
  • vintage metal strawberry broach, SPCA Thrift Store
  • "Bloom" canvas market tote, the Citizen Rosebud
  • MIA tan espadrilles wedges
*A Canadian tuxedo, for those of you who don't know, is the combination of jeans and a jean jacket, often in a off-matching color denim.

HAA! Canadian Tuxedo. I've never heard of that. Priceless. And good for you for wearing your shorts.
I'm technically the age where I'm not supposed to wear minis either. F. That.

Oh darling, you look marvelous! Rocking the Canadian Tuxedo (which, by the way, I've never heard of before - love it!) And your legs are gorgeous. I'm so insecure about my legs that I'll rarely be caught in capri pants, nevermind shorts (nevermind short shorts). <3

No matter how many times I see girls pull off this look, I'm just not ready to try it for myself! The Canadian tuxedo has such bad connotations in my mind and I can't get over it!! Although I did manage a chambray shirt with black jeans the other day - we'll call that the sneaky Canadian tuxedo!
