outfit post: Fool Enough

Checkered Past: vintage gingham and hounds tooth gets paired together for a funky twist on the shirt and short combo.
I L-O-V-E gingham. So this shirt is coming with me well into the shady days of Fall, even though it is a summer red, tissue thin and very light weight. My gingham shirt is just so easy to wear. The shirt was last seen HERE. This time I dolled it up with a vintage acetate hounds tooth print scarf and trilby hat, just to give me some practice in layering.

After all, Sacramento has a hot September, it's basically still summer weather, but I'm chomping at the bit to start dressing for one of my favorite seasons. What makes Fall so fun is that it is the season to layer, and I can't wait to pile up scarves, sweaters, jackets and shirt-on-shirt action.

I usually associate gingham with summer, and other prints bring Autumn to mind, like paisley, but in this day and age, anything goes, right? So I'm going to treat my gingham as another form of plaid which is definitely a print I plan to mix this Fall. Plaid on plaid. Plaid with Florals. Plaid vs Polka. Plaid and Lace. Oh the possibilities are ENDLESS.

I've been seeing some wonderful combinations of this classic print. Two brilliant outfits were worn recently by two of my favorite +40 bloggers. Sacramento, of Mis Papelicos looked smart mixing an animal print with plaid in her recent post, Tartan JungleAnd Desiree, my muse from Down Under, also rocks a plaid with a leopard print that looks absolutely amazing on her! You can gasp in awe by clicking HERE. And just so you don't think I have to go abroad for plaid/animal print inspiration, I'll share with you a post from Street Style SACRAMENTO that captured a local artist rocking the same sweet and sassy combo. You can check out her outfit HERE

I also dig dudes who can rock the gingham, as in year 'round, rain or shine, any day of the week.  A gent who knows how to sport this delectable checked print is someone I'd be a fool NOT to fall for. Oh, I won't mention names. BUT YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.

Fool Enough to Fall for Gingham. Year 'round.

You are clever by using autumnal patterns rather than fabrics and such a kick-ass outfit, too.
I wish our hot weather would return. It's feeling distinctly chilly here but once those tights are out they are there until at least May which is pretty much like a prison sentence in my opinion. x

Adore that blouse with the bow too. Starting to feel very chilly here and layers are looking like they may be needed. Come back summer!

I love gingham as well! Possibly a throw back to my childhood days, when my favourite movie was The Wizard of Oz. Gingham looks great on you, and I love the shorts.

Your shirt looks perfect for hot weather, and yes, would be great layered with other pieces for fall. I love ginham in unusual colors (lavender, olive), but haven't seen much lately.

Um...HOW FREAKING ADORABLE ARE YOU? I absolutely love this outfit. Especially the gingham and that adorable little ascot/bowtiw is definitely a great touch. I'm so crushing on ascots this Fall its not even funny!

I agree with you on Gentlemen in Gingham too, by the way. A man who knows how to work it is a-okay in my books! Hehe!

P.S. I really, really love your badass platforms. For reals.

You know Bella, it's already Fall here in Canada! You can stop chomping at the bit and come layer it up with me in the North. Bring your gingham because you're rockin' it! I especially love how you tied the neck scarf and accessorized with the hat and glasses. You're a babe!

Just goes to show that it's a combination of what one wears with the WAY that one wears it. You just exude head-turning confidence here - especially in the last photo.

I remember you rocking this guy!!! Seriously you do gingham in a completely fresh way. Inspires me to get myself a piece of gingham I can see how it would fit into my fall wardrobe quite nicely. And I love the mix of prints with the houdstooth.
