outfit post: the Cape Escape

The Mad Plaid-er: Wearing a plaid cape is part of my method for "Blooming Madly."
As obsessed as I've been with capes these past 10 years, I don't really wear them out much. I recently sold a number of capes from my decade long collection, as I realized that I wasn't going to wear them that often and 15 capes in one closet is really just plain ol' overkill. That said, this plaid wool gem from the 1960's is a recent addition and it's a real keeper. Perhaps, you've seen me wear it HERE. Well constucted, fully lined and warm, and with zero nonsensical frills, I love the streamlined look to this cape, and of course, the plaid print. So there's still a handful of capes in my closet and I'm determined to at least wear them once before our springtime warmer weather hits us.

Which groundhog shadow or no, is soon, as you can guess by the fact I get to wear shorts in February. Only in California, folks.
Now Wearing:
  • vintage '60's brown plaid cape, This N That Thrift
  • pre-loved cotton print shirt, thrifted
  • vintage 80's sweater, Goodwill
  • mom jean shorts, from a free pile
  • striped knee-highs (over 5 years old)
  • Coach flats (over 6 years old)
"Jazzhands!"

I like the caption - Mad Plaid-er. And the pic of you with your hands in the air has this edgy innocence like little plaid riding hood fesses up to liking the big bad wolf. The shorts are shockingly unexpected - great choice!

You know I've never worn capes ever, a big contrast with you having a collection of them. I do like them on other people though, reminds me of 19th century hunters *if that makes any sense*. Have a great weekend B!

Great cape! I've always fancied wearing one on my bike to swoosh around London in.

Ha, so you found one! It's gorgeous. How do you wear a bag with it? I love my big sling bags when there's a lot to carry. Somehow it didn't work with a cape, neither a shoulder bag. Left me with a purse. Hm, limited options.

Really awesome cape! I love the colors and it looks so warm and cozy. But how the heck can you wear it in this HEAT? Sac must be warm because in here in Fairfield it feels like late spring. Ya only in California :)

Your cape, along with your photos, is fabulous! I assure you you can totally wear shorts in Florida right now. It's been 88 degrees!! Ridiculous for February. I hope you have an amazing weekend, lovely lady!

That is a fabulous cape! I only have one and I don't wear it much either. As another commenter mentioned, it gets in the way of my shoulderbag. Maybe cross-body would work. Anyway, love the outfit, love those SOCKS! Hugs to you, BellaQ!!

I have two capes, including a blue and green plaid wool one very similar to this. There is such lovely drama in wearing a cape, but I have to know I've got the attitude that particular day to carry it off! You most certainly do.
