MIND THE MUSIC: your mirror

Mind the Music: Sky Symphony

The year was 1968. The world was muddle-wonderful. I was just a kid, just three years old, but the late sixties are certainly one of my favorite times of fashion, music and art.

I remember the way everything looked: colorful, naive, fresh faced.

I'm still drawn to things from that time. Like this vintage 1968 music box.

MIND THE MUSIC: Swedish Hoodoo

From a small village in a quiet corner of northern Sweden, comes a communally fueled, world minded "musical tradition" known as Goat. The band's origins shrouded in mystery, its current band members keep anonymous by performing in full costume, replete with a stunning regalia of vintage masks. The sound is pulsing, hypnotic, poly-rhythmic.

Mind the Music: Chicken in Corn

One string. Lots of chutzpah.

I think the moral of the story is, that when you put your attentions on what you can do, rather than what you have,  or don't have, you get things done. And in this case, the results is a catchy tune, showcasing the talent and enthusiasm of a street musician.

One string- and no complaints about not having the right guitar. Just plunk-plunkity-plunket and play.  How many times have you said you couldn't do something you wanted to do, because of a lack of something? And here this guy does DO it, with a banged up guitar missing nearly all of its strings.

We could learn a thing or two from Bushy One String.

It's been a blog tradition here at the Citizen Rosbud to take a blog-cation during the month of August, and this year, it comes in the nick of time. I've been toying with the idea of taking a "media break," for some time now, and take a step away from all  the social media channels. Battling stress, burn-out, and in need of some balance. We're going to use this time away offline to re-access our  needs and purpose, here online, and in real life.

LIMITED TIME ONLY: this LINK takes you to the special sale on eBay valid from now to August 16th: http://ebay.us/1MTF6O BUY 2 GET 15% OFF YOUR ORDER.

Wishing you all a wonderful end of summer and at least one string to showcase your talents.

Mind the Music: Luna (Full Flower on Phinney)

Today a Full Flower Moon. (Photo Source)
Today, a full moon. In fact a "Full Flower Moon," which sounds very special to me. So in honor of our full flower, here's a little music to set the mood. Happy mooning!

Mind the Music: Avalon (at the Speakeasy)

Bryan Ferry Orchestra – The Jazz Age

This track from 2012’s unexpected (and unexpectedly cool) record, The Jazz Age, has Bryan Ferry – singer from one of my all-time favorite bands, Roxy Music –  re-imagining and re-interpreting songs from the Roxy songbook and his solo albums, taking every last vestige of glam and rock out and replacing it with the sounds of a hot jazz orchestra from the 20’s and 30’s.

Mind the Music: Not Mocked

I’m Dennis and welcome to the soundtrack of Citizen Rosebud! Bella and I have been friends since college back when there was a ‘teen’ in our ages. I’ve been a crazy music collector and (fairly sane) writer for a while and love to share songs with people. When Bella asked me to guest DJ for her Mind the Music series, I said, yes, of course! She’s great at the visual and I’m pretty decent with the sonics so this looks like a dream collab!

I hope you enjoy the songs!

Mind the Music: Stranger to My Happiness

The Vintage Vandal: Jasmin Rodriguez,  a modern-day pin-up (Photo Credit: Bryan Sansveiro)

Jasmine is the face (and smokin' hot body) behind the popular pin-up blog Vintage Vandalizm, and I love her! She has great style, and is at once retro and a very savvy modern business woman. Having met her just once, I immediately became smitten with her kittenish good looks, down to earth demeanor and mad sense of style. Kinda like Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings- both have a look and sound of the past but are terribly right, for right now.

Sparkle and Shine

People are like stained glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.   -Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

Here's to your light from within.

Mind the Music: African Royals

"We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair"

Now when a pop-tune pops, it can break out all over the planet. I've been loving the myriad of covers done to Kiwi-darling Lorde's smash hit, Royals (see the US version here).
